JAMES T. STODD, SPHR

Organization Planning & Development/Human Resource Management

Jim offers seasoned experience as an organizational change consultant, change agent, and executive. He has assisted numerous clients develop the organizational properties and capabilities required to achieve their strategic visions and goals. In addition, he has assisted other organizations build strategically-focused and highly successful human resource management programs by introducing forward-thinking approaches to people management issues. Jim’s experience extends over a diverse mix of clients including those in the manufacturing, healthcare, petrochemical, finance, education, human service, construction and professional service sectors. In addition to using his extensive experience to advise clients regarding effective organization planning and design, he has gained special expertise in change management, business process  transformation, staff recruitment, selection and retention, compensation & reward, performance management, and administrative human resource issues.

Before starting an independent consulting practice in 2001, Jim was associated with several leading professional service firms including Ernst & Young, LLP, Hay Management Consultants, First Transitions, and HR Alternatives, Inc. His educational preparation includes a B.A. in Psychology from Saint Louis University and a M.S. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from Illinois State University.  He also completed extensive post-graduate work at the Industrial Relations Center of the University of Minnesota specializing in Organization Behavior and Human Resource Management. Jim has earned lifetime certification as a “Senior Professional in Human Resources” (SPHR) awarded by the Human Resource Certification Institute.  

Throughout his career Jim has also been an active teacher and speaker.  He currently teaches management at the University of California-Irvine as well as serves on the faculty of the University of Phoenix teaching classes in Organization Behavior and Human Resource Management. Previously he served on the faculties of Roosevelt University, the Chicago Institute for Financial Management, and Illinois State University.  He has been a featured speaker for the Louisiana Hospital Association’s annual conference and a keynote speaker for the Annual Conference of the Southern Management Association (American Academy of Management). Finally Jim has authored several articles on organization management and is a contributing author to a graduate-level textbook entitled The Handbook of Human Resource Management (Blackwell Publishers, 1995).

Jim’s career has also included active involvement in leadership & governance. He has served on the Board of Directors for several organizations as well as providing consultation, advise and service to the Boards of other organizations.  He currently serves on the Board of Directors for the southern California based Association of Professional Consultants.
